Stable angina is a condition that can be treated effectively, allowing patients to continue enjoying their favorite daily activities.
This can be achieved by adopting a healthier lifestyle with the help of the cardiologist.
This message is being delivered by the Hellenic Cardiology Society (HCA), which is running the stable angina information campaign, “Enjoy life…with your heart!”.
Stable angina pectoris is a common manifestation of coronary artery disease caused by reduced oxygen supply to the heart due to narrowing of the coronary arteries and should not be confused with an acute ischemic myocardial infarction (myocardial infarction).
An episode of angina pectoris is characterized by discomfort, severe pain or tightness in the breastbone that occurs after physical exhaustion, emotional distress (stress) or even a heavy meal – when the heart’s need for oxygen increases.
The pain may also radiate to the neck, back, jaw and teeth, left shoulder, left arm, or upper abdomen. You may also experience shortness of breath, weakness, nausea, or severe belching (belching). The condition occurs in both sexes, with frequency increasing with age.
Speaking on the launch of the campaign, Ioannis Kanakakis, President of the Hellenic Cardiology Society and Director of Cardiology at the Treatment Clinic of the Athens General University Hospital “Alexandra”, said: “We have found that insufficient information leads many patients to try to avoid the onset of symptoms of a stable Prevent angina by limiting your daily activities and staying home. In this way, however, they are deprived of many moments that used to brighten up their everyday lives, as well as the benefits of physical activity. It is important for them to know that we now have effective treatments for stable angina to help them stay active and in a good mood.”
In this context, the aim of the “Enjoy life… with the heart!” campaign is to educate patients about stable angina pectoris and motivate them to adopt more “heart-friendly” habits, so that, in cooperation with the cardiologist and receiving appropriate treatment, in order to to improve their quality of life. At the same time, the campaign aims to educate the general public about recognizing the symptoms in order to increase the proportion of people who receive early diagnosis and treatment.
To spread the campaign’s messages, a TV spot will be shown as a “social message” in which Alexandros Antonopoulos, Costas Arzoglou, Fotini Demiri and Carmen Ruggeri describe an angina episode and inform viewers that the solution is not in it insists to limit their activities but consult your doctor for effective treatment of the condition.
